Our institute was founded in 1977 under the name of Institute for the Physics and Technology of Radiation Devices, belonging to the Institute of Atomic Physics (which was founded in 1949).

Following a long deep analysis of all research and development institutes in Romania, our institute was accredited as a National Institute with the name: "National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics".

The National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics is carrying out fundamental and applied researches in laser physics, plasma physics, physics of electron beams and cosmic space physics.

The Institute is located south of Bucharest, at 10 km distance, In the same area there are a High School, the Faculty of Physics of the University of Bucharest, a shopping center and the residences for the institute's employees.
